Rubber Roofing

As property prices rise, many households have had flat roof extensions and converted garages to living areas rather than move to a larger more expensive home.

Most of the old flat roofing material is mineral felt bonded to the boards with heated tar then coated with gravel to give protection from sunlight. It has an approximate lifespan of around 15-20 years.

Over time the felt becomes brittle and the gravel loosens and is washed into the gutters. Moss grows on the gravel adding weight to the surface and preventing it drying out. Eventually it may spring a leak and need to be repaired or replaced.

There are many alternative solutions with prices across the spectrum and varying degrees of success. It pays to be diligent and make sure you get the right product and service to meet your budget.

What alternative is the best?

  • Having been tested in adverse conditions and proven to remain water tight, we believe rubber roofing to be one of the best alternatives to traditional felt.
  • Fitted in one piece, almost like a carpet, means there are no joints or seams to wear or come apart.
  • No risky flames from heat guns as it is glued to the boards.
  • Once laid out and bonded to the surface – new edging and gutter trims are fixed in place to ensure the rainwater runs off correctly.
  • It is extremely flexible to cope with varying temperatures expanding to cope with movement of the building.
  • It is one of the most environmentally friendly roofing products around with no toxic ingredients and a lower environmental impact than traditional flat roofing.
  • With an expected lifespan of 50 years you need never have to worry about it again.

We recommend new plywood boards with your new roof to ensure perfect adhesion and support.
